Hi everyone, I've got a pretty good collection of vhs movies that i've purchased in the 80s & 90s....(some are not even available in dvd's )
anyway I'm finally going to retire my vcr by copying these vhs's to my new dvd recorder. but I'm finding out that 9 out of 10 movies won't let me copy?? after spending some times reading on this & other another site I'm learning that there is a thing called " microvision"? that prevents signals from being recorded?
my questions is: Is microvision something that needs to be disable from the player? or the recorder? or both?![]()
thanx in advance

The word is "Macrovision", as in the company that patented the tech.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

lordsmurf --- reply and the Info he gives, at the site given, dirsctly answer your questions.
A TBC is expencive and con be a problem
A recorder that ignores Macrovision is, in my opinion, best over a non-compliant VCR, if you can find one.
I have dubbed over 300 VHS tapes many with Macrovision and other copy protection and have had only one problem that lordsmurf discribes in the thread he has given.
Get a LiteOn product that can be hacked. The firmware changes are simple. -
If you're just transferring VHS tapes to DVD, check out the device shown here...
http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=80-4280&N=4
I have used this type of device for over 10 years to make back-up copies of VHS tapes to VCRs and (more recently) DVD recorders with great results. -
fyi, newark.com is a reputable company; not known to most of general public since they deal mostly with businesses

Try a video stabilzer. I have recorded many VHS to DVD movies without a hitch. This device removes Macrovision and is inexpensive.

THANKS everyone for your infos, this site Rocks!
LCSHG, can you tell me the model of the LiteOn recorder that you're thinking of? so i can do more research on it.
pepegot1, the price on the macrovision remover link you gave is very reasonable.... I've found a similar product in that price range & it did not work for me. I think the video stablizer that i got does not work with my recorder. can you tell me the make & model of your VCR & DVD recorder?
thanks again everyone -

Sorry for the late reply
The LiteOn model is the 5045 with 160HDD. The HDD is a distinct advantage. I have the ilo DVDRHD04 by LiteOn, is a WALMART item with 80 gb HDD. The ilo 04 is now discontinued. Some have reported that WALMART has brought back the RHD04 at $228 but I have not found any. There is a slight difference. I like the ilo. The 5045 is a very good machine, With Hack they will copy anything. I have not had luck with most devices that are supposed to defeat Macrovision. Remember that most LiteOn are non compliant and will work around other protections.
I looking at other models of the LiteOn, be careful. Some of the newer models of the LiteOn have questions as to their ability to accept hack or firmware changes.

Should Add,
When you look at the other forms at this site keep in mind that the information on the different DVD's, their capabilities or hack-ability may not be all correct. Some models like the Daytek, Gateway, Phillips and possibly others may be clones of LiteOn. Some do not respond to any changes or hack. Region hack is one thing Copy protection is another
Read through those sites I posted. You also may want to post.
Good Luck -
SIMA Copy This! model CT-1 $60.00 at Best Buy cheaper on Greedbay will work just fine.

Read my post on this forum about the Sima CT-2 before giving them any of your money.
