I've spent quite a while searching for solution but couldn't find anything.

My standalone DVD recorder records everything from TV in Dolby Digital 2.0 256kbps. I sometimes split films over 2 discs to obtain the highest quality and re-encode for DVD 5 with TMPG after removing commercials.

Seeing as a lot of the films I record are actually in mono, does anyone know of any programme available to convert the DD 2.0 (256kbps) to DD 1.0 (128kbps) so as to retain the identical quality but save some space? As far as I know it's only possible to do this in BeSweet if you convert it to MP2, which I'd rather avoid.

    Thanks for the help!

You should be able to do it with GoldWave. I've used it to convert from mono to stereo. There may be free software available, try looking in the Tools section.
