  1. I have several mkv files that im converting for use on a dvd.

i have two tracks of audio for each file, 5.1 HE-ACC and 2 channel HE-ACC.

What programs do I need to use to get the 5.1 HE-ACC to AC3?

I have seen some tips about converting to 6 mono wav files and plugging them into besweet, but Ive had bad luck with besweet and was hoping someone had an easier method that at least didnt invovled besweet. thanks.

You could demux the aac then use ffmpeg. No idea though if 1) it gets the channel order right (aac and AC3 use different channel orders) or 2) if it will recognise correctly that it is he aac without a header telling it so.

You could use mplayer to decode to a 6 channel wav. That should solve 1 and 2 then you can convert that to AC3.

Could use foobar2k to convert the aac to AC3. Should also take care of 1 and 2. foobar2k also supports mka files so it may be possible to open the mkv directly although supporting audio only mka's is a bit of a leap from a mkv containing two audio streams.
