when i use my wireless connection on my router my download speeds drop from 6mb to 1.5 mb or so.. if i connect with the cat 5 i get great speeds.. i have great signal.. i tried the tweeks and still getting slow speeds. i have the linksys 802.11b. i know that 11mb is not always gonna happen.. but i should get 5 at least.. WEP is not enables either.. anyone know whats going on?

The only thing that I can think of is that your signal is weak. Does it always show 100% in your wireless monitor?

If it's on a laptop, try moving closer to the router to eliminate that possibility, then you'll know it's something else.

For BEFW11S4 version 1 the latest firmware is dated December 13, 2002, but this version is an upgrade over the original one.

If you have a BEFW11S4 ver. 2/2.1/3/3.2 there is a firmware dated 4/15/2004 for your router. For BEFW11S4 ver. 4 there is a newer firmware dated 4/07/2005.

I saw many improvments in all the latest firmwares when comparing them to the original ones. If you have not upgrated yet, it may be a good time to do so.

If you have a DWL-G510 revision B there is a new driver that maybe will be able to improve things a bit. If you have a DWL-G510 rev. A, there are not new drivers.

I do not know if the new firmware or new driver will improve things, but it is worth to try.
