  1. The only player that seems to be able to play this movie well is WMP 10. I've tried BSplayer, VLC, Media Player Classic, quicktime, realplayer, and WMP 10. BSplayer and VLC play the file in blue and white only. I do however see a little yellow sometimes though. It happens rarely, but when the color appears it doesn't just appear and dissappear, it's more like the object that is colored yellow actually is yellow in the movie so I know it's not a glitch or something. Media Player classic and realplayer say they can't find the necessary codecs to play the movie, and then play the audio only. Quicktime froze on my the last time it tried to play it, but I think that's just cuz I had to much stuff running on my computer for it to work. Oh I also noticed that Tempgenc (sorry can't spell! ^^ and virtual dub can play this movie fine. I've tried playing this file at my school with VLC and it plays fine there.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my players/video file?

What does GSpot or AVIcodec say about it? You haven't said what type of video file it is?

  3. It's a .avi file. I believe it's encoded in xvid format, but it still says .avi. whatever.

AVIcodec will tell you exactly which codec you need. Sounds like you don't have the correct codec or it is corrupt.

  5. AviCodec says that it is an Xvid codec, but I've already installed the Xvid codec on my computer and the codec only seems to be working with windows media player.

Try a completely different player like VLC or MPC.

  7. my first post says that I've already tried those two players. They both only play in blue and white with yellow every once in a while. I'm definetly missing a codec or filter or something, but I dont' know how to solve it since I can't analyze the program with my amount of knowledge.

If it plays in VirtualDub, try using Fast Recompress and selecting the Xvid codec for output. It sounds more like the file itself is corrupt than a codec problem. If this doesn't work, then maybe a codec problem. You can uninstall the Xvid codec and reinstall it or use a program like DXman to check your codecs.

  9. I'll try that thanks. But one question, if the file itself is corrupt, how come my WMP 10 can play it perfectly?

I'm not sure the file is corrupt. But there may be something in the way it's encoded that is not correct. Running it through VD with known Xvid settings is one way to make it right. If that doesn't help, then you need to look further. Some sort of codec problem would be next. VLC not playing it is unusual. VLC has it's own codecs and doesn't depend on the system codecs.
