    Hello.

Just bought 2 cakes of 25 Ritek DVD-R 8x, made in Taiwan, with Media Code FUJIFILM03. Does anyone have experience with this media? How would you rate its quality?

-- Searching all forums and "Media List" section didn't give me any result for the above combination.

-- Please bear in mind that in my country, on the other side of the pond, good media is scarce and quite expansive.

    Thanks.

FUJIFILM, 2nd class. It's alright, not the best, surely not the worst.

  3. The manufacturer of "FUJIFILM03" DVDs is Ritek.
    See (column FUJI M03):
    http://www.ritek.com/products/dl/DVD_minus_%20at_PC_Burner_compatibility_08_24_2005.pdf

I have experience with 8xDVD-R, brand "Philips", Manufacturer ID "FUJIFILM03" (so manufactured by Ritek): very good.

I would avoid white inkjet printable Ritek DVDs. They sometimes have problems. I guess with warping.

  5. hi there.

    ritek printable discs warping ???

where do u keep yours stored, in the sun or in the oven ???

sorry for this comment but ive never heard so much balony in my life, im a videographer and run a dvd video processing business and ive been using RITEK G04 and G05 for 2 years, never ever had a coaster and surely never ever (i swear to god) had a warp one either.

here in australia we seem to be limited somewhat to the availability of dvd and cd media compared to say usa, and the RITEK G05 is as good as you can get. the TAIYO YUDEN is probably the best (correct me if im wrong) but they are only available here with a silver face which cant be printed on with my EPSOM R210 dvd disc printer (can be printed but with lots of hassles) and thats another reason why i use the RITEK G05 because it has a nice white glossy surface that prints superbly on my r210.

i have run threads and posted in threads in many forums about what is the best DVD/CD media on the market and every time they never resolve the argument, we all use what we believe is the best for our own needs. i swear by RITEK, others say they are crap (they are wrong of course) but its all a personal choice in the end.

all i can say is when (and if) i ever start getting RITEK G05 coasters then ill simply put it down to a bad batch and my supplier will not hesitate to replace any bad ones 4 me, but thus far and after more than about 2000 dvd video burns and about the same data and photo discs i never had a dud disc, all my discs have burned flawlessly (with power2go or with my dvd authoring software burning tool) and all have played in all dvd players and no returns from any clients (ill even take a polygraph test on this one) lol (even princo burn perfecly, i used a lot of those for data and never a problem, however im on my 4th dvd burner in 2 years tho)

i do however supply my clients with 2 copies of thier dvd vids, and i also tell my clients they should have the video files re-burned to a new dvd disc at least every 2 years, even if they are playing them much or not, its just a precautionary thing as these discs are not intended to last a lifetime. im just being overly cautious thats all but i do keep archive copies of all my work on my storage drive just incase they are needed again in the future.

cheers all and catch u later.....GLEN

Ritek media has several known issues. It started about halfway through the RITEKG04 life cycle, and has been there ever since. The "quality" reputation of Ritek started with RITEKG03 media, but did not exist before that. Before the G03 line their DVD-R was somewhat dismal.

While there are certainly a number of people that have "perfect" experiences, they are anomalies. There is a measureable coaster rate on Ritek discs, for a great many people. The printing surfaces are also a bit rough as compared to others.

A lot of people easily forget how RITEK CD-R was once considered the single worst CD-R ever made. They did not start out as a high quality media company, and they still really are not. They're a mediocre producer that does alright, but there are a number of companies that do far better. MCC, MXL and TY being just a few of them.

  7. hi lordsmurf.

u quote the ritek as having a rough surface, are u not referring to something like princo, ritek have about the smoothest and glossiest face u can get on a disc, and they print better than any other disc ive seen, so u and i have a very different opinion on that score, and i still stand by my opinion that RITEK are not as bad as some make them out to be.

have u ever seen a princo disc with a printed surface, what a mess they can be, my riteks print beautifully

id like to meed some people who have problems with burning ritek discs because they either are not using the ones i have or they havent setup thier burner the same as mine, why else can i swear that in probably 4000 ritek burns not a single failure and not a single playback failure in any dvd device. a bit strange to me and the stats mentioned in that article u refer to dont add up for me and im certainly not included in those stats because for me its absolutely 100% success, even with princo discs.

thanks for your reply and ill look more at some reviews, but sadly a lot of those 1ST CLASS media mentioned in this review are not available here in aust bar TAIYO YUDEN, although i think we can now get TDKG02, ill ask my supplier on that

Princo is pretty terrible altogether. Better printing surfaces here come from Maxell, TY and even Prodisc. These are far cleaner and smoother surfaces.

The Ritek can vary. Sometimes they can be great, other times not so great.

They have pretty much all media in Australia:
    MCC: http://www.blankdvdsupermarket.com.au/proddetail.php?prod...
    TY, MCC, TDK: http://www.xtreemtc.com.au/scripts/xtreem.wsc/main?menu=cdr&Deptcode=3&i=no&l=60&CurrentPage=0
    TDK: http://digicity.com.au//index.php?cPath=3&sort=20a&main_page=index&filter_id=13
    TDK: http://rimedia.com.au/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10_16

Most good media is sold worldwide. It's your fake junk that exists in hives here and there.

If I'm not mistaken, Prodisc makes the majority of the media with Fujifilm MID. Ritek making it must be a fairly recent development...
