DVD43 alternatives - using S-Video Out

Hey all,

This post has nothing to do with copying, as all I want to do is watch DVD's from my laptop on a TV using the S-video Out option.

Ok, for the longest time, I could watch DVD's with the s-video out on a normal TV just fine. Then I reformatted my laptop, and would always get CSS copy protection errors that made this playback on the TV impossible. I used to have DVD Shrink on my computer to author some HOME dvd's, and someone told me that having that program before allowed the storebought DVD's to play through the s-video out just fine. Is that correct? Now, I don't have that program on the computer -- so i found DVD43 which seems to allow me to play the storebought DVD's just fine. I was just curious if there is another program that will do the same thing as DVD43 that is freeware.

Is it true that simply installing DVDshrink would allow me to play DVD's with other software players (nero, powerDVD, etc) just fine?

PowerDVD alone should allow you to play a DVD.

There is no restriction for simple DVD playback. More likely you trashed your MPeg2 decoder. That is not part of Windows. Power DVD will include and install the necessary decoder.

S-video output is usually controlled from display properties - settings - advanced. You need to set up for dual monitor with S-Video as the second monitor and make adjustments in "overlay settings".
