Hello. Complete computer newbie here. I live in New Zealand and many dvds aren't made in Region 4, so I downloaded DVD43 on this website after some relatively minor research for a free dvd region killer program. However I tried to play a region 1 dvd on Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre (I don't think I have any other players, I have a pretty basic year and a half old ish Toshiba laptop with Vista Basic) with DVD43, and the DVD43 face turned smiley green, but the disc doesn't shop up on My Computer or on Media Player or Centre and, as such, I can't play it. Please help me, this is endlessly frustrating living in this part of the world where so many movies don't make the cut to be made in the local region. So I'm looking for help with using this program or recommendations of other programs that'll let me watch any region dvds.
Thanks so much for any help.

If the disc doesn't show up on my computer it's usually not a dvd region problem, it's more like it can't the read the disc it at all. I guess it's commercial DVDs you are using and not any dvdrs?

You can try the demo of anydvd and see if it make any difference or try DVD players that ignores dvd regions like VLC Media Player.

Thanks heaps! VLC will let me watch any region like you say? Wow, I'm not trying to disagree with you at all, but I thought it was something, I never knew it was so easy lol. I downloaded 'Cracked DVD Region Free' just now, which worked perfectly, and was recommened by a friend, but upon installation said it was only a 30 day free drial .

Most vista versions don't include the decoder required for dvd playback and suggest's "upgrades"

The combined community codec pack should get you moving... remember to reboot system after installing.

Hey thanks heaps everyone, but I think I have it sorted now. The DVD Region Free trial version actually CAME with the serial number you have to put in to make it permanent. Duh! So now I can use it forever, yay! Thanks for all your help though .
