DVD to Nero Digital... a better idea?

As I have the full Nero suite I have tested converting to Nero Digital and in my opinion I can get better quality results at lower bitrates than with DivX.

The problem is that my Archos AV700 won't play the files and I wondered if there was any way of fooling it to do so or even altering something in the encoded file to make it conform.... Nero Recode 2 makes it so easy to convert DVD to MP4 it seems a shame not to be able to use it!

you ve got to use MP4UI tot convert the mp4 to avi, without sound.
extract the sound with VOB edit to a AC3 file
afterwards open Virtual Dub MOD - open file/ video: direct stream copy/audio:add the ac3 file/ file: save as .. and you ve got a avi file with ac3 sound .

One prob with Nero Digital for PMP's is the Audio it produces is extremely low even if the unit could play the file you'd have to reencode the audio.

BTW How's the screen on the AV700? I'm thinking about the AV500 but have'nt ruled out the 700, and how well dows it play Divx/xvids?

Sorry for the delayed response... been away for a couple of weeks! Screen is ok but not very hi-res and only displays 262k colours. However having said that it's a 7" screen for on the move watching of video so who cares!

Overall very pleased with it and if you take the time and effort to do some quality encodes of DivX, playback onto a TV is excellent too.
