I pulled out my old DVD of "Twister" to watch and I noticed one thing I hadn't noticed before. At the very beginning of the film, the family runs out of their home to take refuge in their underground storm shelter. And, when everyone is inside, the man flips two lock latches. But later, when the door to the shelter starts rattling, he goes to the door to try to hold it down. That's not really the stupid part, though. The stupid part is that they show a close-up of the latches he's using and they're just these cheapo throw-bolts some people hook up to their screen doors or sheds to keep them closed. My God, who in their right mind would attempt to secure a tornado shelter with cheapo throw-bolts? That guy deserved to die ... and he did.
