Hello, I recently recorded the Live Will and Grace premiere on my motorola DVR, I was going to use d-vhs to transfer the file onto my computer but I have a few questions first.

    1. Since the episode is in HDTV I want to burn it onto DVD using the best quality possible, is there a better way to transfer rather than d-vhs?

    2. Once I have the .ts file what is the best way to get a high quality dvd?

I'm unfamiliar with the motorola box, however, DVD does not support HD (720P or 1020i), so there will be some quality loss.

Copy the file to the DVD and play it from the computer with the VLC Media Player. It won't play on a DVD player without conversion to 720x480 MPeg2.

Yes the TS file would be HD.
Laptop no, S-Video is NTSC or PAL and low resolution.

A desktop with a ATI all in wonder + HD component adapter could play it to a HDTV.

HD playback from a laptop would require expensive external equipment connected to the VGA port.

Here is one. This assumes your laptop can output 1920x1080 or higher over the VGA port (2nd monitor). Older laptops top out around 1600x1200.

All this assumes of course that the laptop is fast enough to play the HD TS file with the VLC software decoder.

    1. Best I know is Sony Vegas v5/6. There is a new version of consumer level Sony Vegas Movie Studio that now also supports HD in some form. Go look.

    2. I thought you said you already captured a show?
