Is it at all possible to rip a DVD without losing any of the video quality? If so, what software would I use to do this? I have a video that I have made myself and I want to share it with a friend over the internet by transferring it to her but I don't want to lose any of the quality of the video when I send it to her. Thanks in advance.

If you want it to be exactly the same rip it with dvddecrypter and send her the vob files. Of course that would be huge but thats the ONLY way to preserve it 100%.

Other than that you'll have to convert it to divx/xvid/wmv or some other compressed video file.

There are many programs to do that. autogk is one in particular.

    https://www.videohelp.com/convert

That link has more choices. Choose the format you want to use. WMV is a good choice for file sharing (assuming of course there aren't copyrighted materials in your "home made" video ).
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Thank you, yoda. I was just reading on the DVD Decrypter page that she could watch them directly on her PC or re-encode them. Will re-encoding them make them lose video quality?

Yes reencoding introduces SOME quality loss.

Compression by definition is reducing the picture quality. (EDIT - not exactly but it won't be exactly the same as the original video source)

Now you can make it look very good but the file size will be large depending on the quality level. You have to sacrifice space for picture quality.

One more option would be to simply mail a copy of the dvd to her. If its your own creation that your not doing anything wrong. Media mail is really cheap too.

Oh ok. Then I hope the video isn't too long or it might be a pretty big download.

Just look through the tools section on the left of the screen. There are plenty of dvd-divx guides. You can also use other formats. Make sure she has the codec for whatever format you use. You can point her to this website if she can't play the file. All of the common codecs are available in the tools section.

So you are saying all I need to send her is the VOB files? No other files are needed burn the DVD or view it?

Well if you're going to do it that way you should send the entire video_ts folder. That way all she has to do is use something like powerdvd in "harddrive mode". Then it will play it as if the physical dvd was in the drive.

Can she burn a DVD herself if I send her the entire video_ts folder?

Yes though to be 100% dvd compatible she'll need the audio_ts folder as well (don't worry its empty but it needs to be there to meet the specs).

Just to add if the DVD is below 4.7gb it will fit back onto a disc without the need to re-encode
