well im pretty sure this might have been asked but i have 2 problems i think...

Well ill start with what im trying to do; I want to do either 1 of 2 things. One being adding perm subs to an avi file, I have the movie.avi and .sub, with the addition of the .srt subs i converted with the sub maker.

I know you use Virtual Dub mod or other to do this but whenever i try to load the mov i get the, You dont have the right codec... windows media.... blah blah error. My first question is what must i do for this to work, or what am i doing wrong?

The other thing i might want to do if it is necessary,( i really wounldnt preferr this) it would be making a Avi w/ subs to DVD, now i have read much if not all of the tutorials about doing this but it seems like i get some kind of error or another while on some of the last steps.

oh and i have no problem watching to mov with the subs, but for some reason it only works on Windows Media 9 and up. but that isnt a problem for me

    Please help me out^^

Install a codec that handles whatever fourCC the error says. So if it is complaining about no decoder for XVID, install XviD.

No I can't, but that is your fault not mine.

You are going to have to do better than blah, blah... You need to tell us the fourCC.

You could have all codecs bar one and if the file happened to use it then the fact that you have all the others really doesn't help.

Any app that relies on VfW won't work either.

You may also be able to get away without installing anything by enabling ffdshow to handle the fourCC (via VfW, not dshow) since ffdshow can decode most commonly found stuff.
