For some unknown reason my Powerdvd tries to connect to the internet whenever i try to play a dvd.

This has only started this morning so i'm a bit confused. Obviously its easy to cancel the connection and watch the film but its still annoying.

    Any help would be great

  2. Simply get zone alarm and block the program. Lately it seems every program is trying to phone home all the time...

  5. As was suggested, you should get Zone Alarm, then you'll know for sure which program is trying to go on the net. For all you know it could very well be spyware, in fact nobody should go on the net without a firewall (even on dial-up). I've seen ZA block port scan attempts on dial-up connected PCs even without a browser running.

Is it possible that there's some sort of "Connect to IMDB to download Movie Info" option in PowerDVD that you've accidently activated ? Automatically updating the software perhaps ?

Software doesn't just start doing things like this without some human interaction, be it directly by changing a setting, or indirectly by allowing automatic updates to newer versions of programs, or even obscurely like someone has written a virus that, when infected, makes the user's PowerDVD phone home whenever they play a DVD ...... or not.

You get the idea though ....
    If in doubt, Google it.

My guess is that you clicked on the i-power button which is the Cyberlink newsletter. There should be an I button on the webpage it opens. Click that to disable i-power again.
Edit: or press the i-power button on the main screen again.
