I have a compiled DVD and I'd like to be able to watch and check it through my computer before I waste a disc. I'm not sure what program to use though. Some of the video players in the tools list dont seem to play compiled DVDs. Id like something free if possible.

In general if you have it authored, you should be able to play it with a program like PowerDVD before you burn it as it approximates a regular settop DVD player. Freeware is a little harder. Many programs like VLC Media Player will be able to play files that aren't DVD compliant.

Another alternative is to invest in a few RW for testing purposes. I've actually had WinDVD play some files that wouldn't play on the settop once burned.

The best free player is ifoedit ...

Install powerdvd , nero media player , whatever dvd playing software that came with the drive ... and never use it ...

That should take care of the video side of things .

    Install ac3filters ... audio done .

Lauch ifoedit , insert dvd into drive , if system default player runs , close it , back in ifoedit , click load ifo , sellect the first ifo file listed found on dvd drive from folder video_ts , hit button "dvd play" ... and enjoy .

This is the best way to check authored dvd content for error's prior to burning , and no other method beats it ... not nero , not powerdvd , not windvd , none of them...
