  1. ProjectX got an official update after 5 years to version 0.91.0. I am looking for this latest version compiled as an EXE with no need for JRE to be installed. I searched for tools to compile JAR to EXE but they seem to still need JRE installed for the program to run. Can anyone provide the latest version as EXE or help me compile it plz?

Click on the link to ProjectX in your post. It will lead you to a page where you can get "ProjectX Portable" which to me implies that the portable version does not need a JRE. It's up to you to confirm if that's true or not.

I think part of the confusion is due to "compiled" and "installer". ProjectX a java based program has been distributed as a set of base files that required you to "compile" into a set of files suitable for Windows, MAC or Linux. Of late most of the downloads available have already been compiled for Windows. That doesn't mean you don't need java installed on your computer. What many requesters really want is a compiled version of ProjectX complete with java wrapped in a standard Windows or MAC installer. ie click on the exe file and the whole package is installed on your computer (together with java) and all the correct paths set up. As far as I know Oozoon only offered these versions if you subscribed to his efforts - reasonable enough and another German site issued the package in a much smaller install file around 14GB. The Oozoon executable is around 22MB.

I have found from my personal experience that people who are having problems with java fall into 3 camps

    1. the paranoid! I won't have java on my computer (insert obsession) well you can get a version that uses .NET but that's probably a no no as well!!!

    2. ProjectX can't find where java has been installed - simple enough to fix

    3. A few hardy souls still using Win95 or 98 time to move on!!

A note: if you have a 64 bit system you need the 64 bit version of java

  8. Without installer is desired (unpack and run) as well as compiled with Java included so there are no external dependencies. Ok, you might say .NET API is just as bad, but it is not because unlike Java, .NET is probably already installed and even if it wasn't, installing it wouldn't add bloat like running background processes at startup.

But the main reason I was motivated to find this compiled with JRE version was for reliability. I want ProjectX as it's own self contained, standalone, portable app that has no chance of conflicting with other Java programs and no chance of performing differently depending on what version of the Java virtual machine is installed.

I've never had any conflicts with java, always updating as they come and I have a lot of music and video editing software that is java dependent as are several other people in the professional editing biz. One can like me turn off just about everything in startup other than the bare essentials. Horses for courses. I hope the version I sent you works OK it hails from 2008 so a bit old but most of the changes over the years have related to German PVR's so the basic function of demuxing MPEG2 TS files hasn't changed. A professional artist friend whose PC I maintain runs Windows 7 64bit and has both the 32 and 64 bit version of java running without any problems. One ancient but useful painting program demands the 32 bit version. .NET is also installed. So I am of the firm belief that conflicts that may exist on some machines and I'm yet to see one in my service rounds can be fixed simply. Enjoy!

  10. I was experiencing problems with a Java program that runs 24/7 and must be reliable. So I wanted to try a portable ProjectX.

    There is this... http://www.watchersnet.de/Downloads/tabid/53/rrcid/2/rrscid/8/rreid/379/rrpid/1/rrepp/...0/Default.aspx

It is the latest version but there is an installer to past through, so it is not ideal.

  17. It's a "desktop only" edition In other words it's a bug and you cannot change to other disc or folder.
