  1. Is there anyway to increase the volume of a DVD soundtrack without reauthoring the whole thing.

Yes, but it is still not easy. You need to demux the audio track from the DVD structure. Then, convert it to wav format. If it is stereo or 2 channel AC3 then a stereo wav is fine. If it is multi-channel, then you have to break it down to one mone wav for each channel. Adjust the volume for each wav file. Reencode the new wav files back into it's original format. Remux back into the original DVD structure in place of the old one. Lots of work requiring a number of tool and a reasonable amount of time and patience.

Or you could turn up the volume on your TV.

Is the problem that overall volume is too low, or that when you have the loud noises turned down, you can't here the softer ones ? If it is the latter problem, then it is volume, it's normalisation that you need to look into.

  4. Thank you for the replies. I have to turn up the volume on some DVD 's almost all the way to even hear just dialog. Others are fine. I have a 1000 watt per channel system that has plenty of volume. It is only certain DVD's that are like that. I was just hoping there was an easier way.

Are these commercial disks ? Out of the 1000's of disks I have owned or watched I have never had a commercial disk with the volume too low. I'm beginning to think a number of people in this forum have their hearing aids turned down too low instead.

If they are commercial disks, which ones (I have a fair selection of US disks in my collection)

  8. I know how ot demux and edit the audio , but I want to use the orignal menus
and extras. How do I put it back together again. They are backups of commercial discs made with DVD shrink.

You can always turn it up alittle more in the center channel. 1000 watts should be enough to hear it.
