    Hi

Not sure if I can ask this question here.
I have 2 dvd players at home. One for HT and the other for the kids to use. As you know, kids are not very careful handling dvds and I would like to know if there is a software which I can use to make an image and then burn the image for copy protected dvds. Purpose is to protect my collection (kids movies). I have nero which can do for non-copy protected dvds. Preferably can copy in DD5.1 or DTS.
    Many Thanks

  2. DVDShrink & DVDDecrypter (or DVDFabDecrypter).

This should probably be in the DVD to DVDR forum.

Would I then be able to use Nero to burn the image?
    Thanks

Yes, but shouldn't be necessary, in the (separate) way you seem to mean. DVDSHRINK has a config option in one of its setup screens that will CALL your existing, installed Nero and burn the dvd backup for you, making this go like one continuous process. Alternately, it can rip the backup as an ISO image that can be burned by other programs, not just Nero. There are some good guides on this here . . . but it's pretty straightforward.

If you run into one of the DVDs that Shrink or Decrypter can't handle (both of these programs got torpedoed by the powers that be, and are no longer entirely up to date), try DVDFABdecrypter for the rip. That seems to be the last resort these days.

Will the free version of dvdfabdecrypter do the job? Will the free version copy DD 5.1 and DTS5.1?
    Thanks

  8. If the original is to large to fit on a dvdr you can shrink it to fit with DVDSHRINK .

Rip with DVDFabDecrypter, load it into Shrink and strip it down to the movie and a sound track. If that doesn't fit, Shrink will reduce it for you. As it is for the kids, the quality will be fine. If you want better quality, look into DVD Rebuilder with the CCE Basic encoder as an alternative to Shrink, or to run after Shrink has altered the structure.

Yes the free version will rip the disk just fine. If the disc is to big to put on a single dvd then just use dvdshrink (free) to transcode to fit.
