Hello,
If I create a videofile with CCE, it's a bit unsharp.
How to make the video sharper in CCE, does someone know this?
If you can, could anyone tell me how to do it?
In advance thanks

Use a CQM (Custom Quant Matrix). Experiment till you find one that gives you the sharpness you want.

Is this only a problem in CCE and not in other encoders or is CCE the only one you've tried? You may just be using too low of a bitrate or too low of a resolution which is going to make the picture appear unsharp in any encoder.
You need to tell us which version of CCE you are using and what your settings are because the settings actually change alot from one version to another. We also need to know what the source is. For instance, if your source is interlaced you may accidentally have thrown out half your fields which would certainly make the picture appear very unsharp.
Couple of immediate thoughts....Make sure you don't have half vertical or half horizontal checked cause naturally that will cut your resolution in half. Make sure you don't have dvd compliant checked because that can actually adjust your resolution too leading to loss of sharpness. Make sure quick comperssion isn't checked.
Lastly read the manual section on image quality priority and set it accordingly. Its called image quality priority in 2.5 (which I use) but something different in later versions. Whatever its called, its the one with a scale of 1-64 (in CCE 2.5 the scale is 1-100). If you think the video overall lacks sharpness then you should move the slider to the right (higher values.) -
The version of CCE SP is 2.70. The problem is only in CCE, not in other programms. And the quality of the original video is also fine (dvd resolution and bitrate, if I watch the original movie in Windows Media Player it's sharp)
Here are some screenshots of the my current settings:
Could anyone help me? -
I use 2.67, so the settings may be labelled differently (I know there is quite a bit of GUI change in 2.70), but my settings under quality are:
Under Detailed Settings, uncheck Low Pass Filter and Effect Restricted Vertical Filter. Increase Quantizer Characteristics to around 27. Set Intra Block DC Precision to 10, and if the source is progressive, Block Scanning Order to zigzag and tick the Progressive Frame Flag box. I am pretty happy with the results I get using these settings.Read my blog here.
