  1. Is the rendering that happens when using 'Render As' in a Vegas project similar to what happens when you drag a Vegas project file (*.veg) to the timeline of an empty project?

IOW, when dragging the *.veg file, are uncompleted edits such as transitions and effects automatically rendered and completed?

    Thanks and appreciation.

A.veg file is simply the saved project file so if you SAVED your project that is what it creates. Clicking the .veg file will open that saved project in the condition it was when you saved it. It does not have anything to do will any rendering or anything else. It is simply your project file. To render something to a final form you double click the timeline - anywhere inside the video files that reside in it. This will select the complete project. If you do not, you may have a small section selected for looping for example and only the portion will be rendered out. Now you go to File / Render and choose a file format to render to.

  3. Thanks for getting back jtoolman.

    Further clarification:

When I double click the veg file in Explorer, the project opens to my original edit of 8 tracks (audio and video).

    Using the "drag" method:

    - Open new blank Vegas project.
    - Via Vegas Explorer I drag a veg project file into the blank project timeline window.
    - A progress dialog opens with: Rendering (my filename).veg.sfap0
    - The result in this timeline is just 2 tracks (audio and video) that contain all of the material from the original 8 tracks.

Maybe Vegas is 'stitching' together those 8 tracks into 2, and calls that rendering?

Don't know about that. I simply double click or do File open and locate the .veg file to continue editing a previous progrect. Whatever you see diferent in the timeline by draggin ids not really rendering in the sense of the word. It's not creating another actual file ( real rendering such as final rendering ) more like a rearrangement of the project I think but hey,, I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the 1st time.

The other only type of render is a RAM render which is used to render efftects in a section you want to preview at full frame rate.

  5. Ok - thanks jtoolman. Re-arranging is probably what it's doing. I didn't know about ram rendering. I must try that
