Things to do first. Change the logon id and password for your router. Then, change the name of the access point. Usually it is the model number of the router.
Enable 128 bit encryption and enable MAC addresses. Have it only accept the MAC addresses of the computers that will be accessing. This last one will do the most good.

What make/model Router are you using?

If you read the manual that came with the router, it should tell you what the default user id and password is.

To access your router, type in this URL in your browser window.
    192.168.0.1
default passwords tend to be "admin".
The person who installed it should have left the user manual, but if not, you should be able to download one.

Prot, the URL would depend on the Router used. The one you provided is used for Netgear Routers. For Linksys, 192.168.1.1 is used. Netgear also uses 192.168.0.0

It would depend on the particular Router model.

Knowing the model number would be useful too. Try going to their website, they usually would have a manual in english and a support section (most manufacturers do) with step by step guides of troubleshooting problems.

The Linksys I just purchased is 192.168.01 as is the Airport I am currently connecting to.

192.168.x.x is a reserved IP address for private use and gateway routers usually have an address of 192.168.0.0 or 0.1.

You're going to find 192.168.1.1 on the network, be it a router or computer, but not as a gateway. Too many IP addresses would be wasted.
