I'm having big problems editing raw DV footage.

    1. I have raw DV footage, this play OK on Windows Media for example.
    2. I edit with Virtualdubmod and created cut/cropped footage.
    3. I save as raw DV footage.
    4. The result footage cannot be played on Windows Media.
    5. My main purpose is to use with Sorenson Squeeze.
    6. When used with Sorenson Squeeze, it just crashes.
    7. The same file will work fine on another PC.
    8. I believe I have the relevant codec installed (Panasonic DV Codec).
    9. I can work with the file with Adobe After effects (I need to create Flash Video files) but the files size After Effects produces is too big for some reason.

I've used GSpot to see if there is anything wrong...
    The results are shown below:

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the 4cc codec you're showing..
Just out of curiosity, can you make the cuts, and rather than outputting back to DV, can you possibly use the Sorensen Codec for processing??

It's sort of like taking the middle man out...
Try basic VirtualDub for the same task, and see if you get the same issues..

    at last a reply...!

i need to have the video in the original format.
as if i use any other format of video i would have a loss in a quality.
(erm... this is what i'm presuming anyway!)

i can use sorenson directly on the video, but the resultant video i get is very poor.
it works out much better if i cut down and crop the video to the exact size i need and then use sorenson squeeze on it.
i then get a video that is of very good quality.

do u hav any suggestions how i can get the 'purest' video output (i assumed this would be dv and using the codec i'm using)?

with regards to codec... i have no idea!
    can i use another codec?
    if so, how?

    thanks.

If the file size blows out after using after effects then you are not saving as DV. DV is a constant bitrate codec, therefore the file size is very predictable.

  6. Use Video -> Direct Stream Copy mode if you're not filtering.

Okay, how's about you tell us what your final output is (ie web, DVD, etc...). Since it's Sorensen codec that you're hot for, i just assumed you were making a Quicktime movie of some sort..
I think some of your quality anguish might be due to the filter stacking order.

In theory yes, but if done correctly, nobody should be able to tell the difference..

Remember, if you're simply cutting then this method produces the fastest output and purest video, since it's not recompressing..
