Use fairuse wizard or autogk and you can get subs directly.
or convert the dvd subtitle to text subtitles that can be added when you play the divx, see https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=267416 and www.videohelp.com/play#subs
and please try post in correct forum, this is no dvd authoring. moving you. -
If you search for fuse or srt2bmp you should find info on creating .divx files with subs.

The result is not only not perfect but way tooooo tedious. Any suggestions for an easier way out.........C2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS. -
Just use the subtitles from the DVD. They should be in perfect sync.

HI, glad it worked.
i didnt understand your question, but heres what i do to add subs to my divx backups:
1- convert the dvd to divx (autogk,drdivx,Avi.net, whatever suits your taste)
2- either rip the subs to srt format with Subrip or download them from subwebsites in case my dvd dooesnt have subs
3- use Srt2bmp to get srt subs to xsub format
4-still using srt2bmp use "DMF" button to mux the xsubs and the divx file created in the first step, you can had multiple xsubs and audio and create a divx media format file.
thats all u got to do.
i checked your player out here:
https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=DVP+5500S&Submit=Search&Search=Search&...y=Name&hits=25
it seems your player is divx certified so all you have to do is burn your divx media file onto a cd or put 4 or more divxmedia files onto a dvd and watch it on your standalone player.
while viewing the movie press subtitle button and in case you have multiple xsubs on your fiole they will appear on screen as it would when watching a dvd.
hope this helps, send me a PM in case you run into probs while creating xsubsI love it when a plan comes together! -
