I guess I'm the only one who has tried the dual layer feature on this unit. I made 2 dual layer recordings so far. I am using the Verbatims. The compatibility is good. I can get it to work on all of my dvd players. The only problem I have is during the layer change, it pauses for about 3 or 4 seconds and then resumes action. It does this on both my recordings at the layer change. I'm wondering why there is a pause at all? I never see a pause during the layer change in retail dvd's. If you don't mind the 4 second stall, then I guess its a good feature, but for me it's irritating. On one of my discs, I did a recording of a football game, and the layer change happened to be at the point of an intense tackle. So for it to pause for 4 seconds at that moment was a pretty annoying experience.

If you use the Pioneer DVR-531H-s to play back these DL DVD-R discs do they still exhibit the "offending" 3-4 second pause or do you only get the pause on your other dvd players?

Also did you record direct to the DL DVD-R discs or did you first record to the HDD then to the DL DVD-R and if you did a HDD recording first did you use the HIGH-SPEED COPY or did you use "accurate editing" which then forces a re-encode when copying to the DL DVD-R disc?

Both of my recordings have been from XP+ to optimize mode with frame accurate editing. One of the copies I made was a little over 2 hours, the second copy was maybe around 3.25 long. The 3-4 second pause occurs on 531, and 220. My other players seem to be quicker, but you can't miss the pause on any of my players. It's quite annoying.
