Despite the fact that I haven't bought any "original vcds" in a while I occasionally search the web to see if there are any sites still selling them(don't ask me why, it's just something I do). During a recent search I came across a site called MovieInn.com. In the dozen or so searches I've done over the years, this was the first time this site came up.
What was notable to me about this site is that it's setup was almost identical to VCDGallery from a few years ago. I emailed VCD Gallery and they said that they wern't related to MovieInn.
Another item of note is that they sell commercial svcds which are rare. Has anyone dealt with this site or bought any svcds from them?
My question is more out of curiosity than as a potential customer.

Everything that they sell is on regular DVD, as far as I saw. Since VCD and SVCD are far lower-quality than DVD, what is the advantage to purchasing them?

I don't think commercial SVCDs are rare. They still sell like hotcakes in Asia. There's actually a movie store right up the street from me that sells original SVCDs and I'm in San Antonio, Texas.
Don't know anything about that site but the prices sure look legit. If they were bootlegs they'd probably be selling for half that. I don't know why someone would buy a 3 disc SVCD for $11 when they could buy the DVD for $15. -
The advantage of buying commercial vcds and svcds over dvds use to be the price. Whenever there was a movie I wanted to see but wasn't sure if it would be worth the investment, it was better paying $5 to $8 as opposed to $25. The fact that there were quite a few titles(Star Wars, Back to the Future, etc.) that were not available on dvd a few years ago, but they were on vcd, was also a plus.
I agree with you Adam that the prices of dvds today are very comparable to (s)vcds. This makes purchasing the cds much less appealing. My inquiry about this site was more to see if it was legit. There are only a couple of reputable vcd sites left and I was just trying to determine if this was one of them.
My point that commercial svcds are rare is that of the dozen of sites that sell, or use to sell, vcds I only saw one that sold non-asian studio titles without subtitles. Are the svcds sold near your home major studio releases(i.e. Die Hard, Rambo, etc.)? I'm not in the market for any I'm just being curious. -
Their SVCDs are mostly Asian martial arts movies but yes they do have some blockbuster type American movies.
Then they've got tons of VCDs of all the big name American films.
