    Is it possible to burn on dvd files that are greater than 1 GB? Is there any "1 GB" limit in dvd-r standard? I don't mean authoring but just burning the DV file as a backup.

    Limit is 2GB's for ISO, any larger and you need to burn UDF.

    Yes. The 1 GB limit is on vobs to meet DVD video standards.
