Hello People,
How much would you charge for transfering DV tape into DVD (10 copies). Its for one of my co-workers. I would do it for free but its starting to happen more often.
DV Tape and DVDs are his.
TIA,
taboo

Well since he's supplying the media I wouldn't charge too much.
I don't know maybe $10 a disc???? $5?? How close of a friend is he or she???? Maybe you could get something out of him or her in exchange instead of charging. You know barter.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
With a DVD recorder, maybe $10 per transferred tapes, for a friend. Nothing on the computer.
I would not make him copies. Or if he insisted on copies, he'd buy 16x DVDs and come over and burn the copies himself while I watch tv. That's free.
I try to not do work for friends/family for this reason. My rules on "come do it yourself" keep most of the lazy ass mooches away.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

What do you get paid hourly at your regular job? (don't answer, I don't want my pride hurt) But take that figure and go to the time and a half rate, I assume that you will be doing it outside of your regular 40hr work week schedual be fair and charge from start to finish.
Or do like LS says, but move it up a notch and tell him to bring some steaks and beer and cook out while the PC does its majic. Thats what freinds should do.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

When it is among freinds and co-workers usually the whole Fam Damily gets to come along too. (That can really be a big cash value compared to eating out at a restruant) It is kind of nice to get out and the kids like meeting new people and their kids and such.
On the other side, if I call on a favor or work for me, I will use a line like, "Bring the wife and kids over this weekend for some ribs and beer, and Oh yea, bring the bulldozer, I am moving the treeline back"
Most of the time when a stranger wants to hire me on a cash basis, I flat out ask them what they are willing to pay. If it is way too low I go into the "Well my boss charges X amount an hour for me, But I only see Y amount of it per hour" I try not to take any jobs for a bid price. There are way to many things that can change the scope of work. And anytime things go to hell, I let them know as soon as I find out, but I stick with them and the job until completion. Nothing will ruin your reputation and selfesteem more than bailing out on a project. If the customer knows that there are problems that are not your fault, or even if they are your fault, they will almost always pick up the cost as long as the job gets done to their expectations.
When dealing with professionals, I go time and materials plus mark-up. Mark-up tends to scare them into buying the materials themselves, and that is one less headache for me, And I usually get the scraps left over. I try to do a good job and do it fast. Blow and go. It helps get my foot in the door for bigger and better.
Oh yes, that will work for food deal is only good for five hours per meal! If I have to eat lunch and supper at your place you might have to set up a cot for me to sleep on and have breakfast ready the next day!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I think I would charge like $40-$50 with HIM supplying the disks. Remember...there is wear and tear and time.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
Ask him what he thinks it is worth. If you think that it is too low tell him so. Or go like $25 for the set up and $5 per owner supplied disk. Getting him to throw out a number first kind of lets you know what you are up against. I hate the bargining game, to me it is more nerve racking than worrying about getting paid.

$10US per tape is what I charge friends and family,if I did it for a living I would charge $25.
If they supply the DVD's I discount one dollar. -
I would still charge the 25.00 per tape even if they included the Blanks. I would also only use Blanks that I know are good, not the ones from the customer. Who knows what brand of Media the customer has....
