I have the JVC DRMV5S and the recorders are great. I mainly got it for recording and have a standalone Sony for playback. Because of this I am using the RCA audio out instead of the optical which my Sony is using. I needed to test a DVD I burned on my computer using a Plextor PX-708A. The sound will skip and distort. On my Sony its fine and on a Hitachi DVD/VCR combo it plays fine. I went through several DVD's I have burned over the years, some being Ritek -R, Verbatim -R & -RW, BeAll -R, and Prodisc -R. Several of these were burned with a Sony that I had before my Plextor. Every one exhibits the same problem. I have even tested creating the DVD using WAV audio and AC-3. Same thing.
I am using Vegas 5 to create the audio and video files, DVD-LAB to create the DVD and Nero 6.6 to burn it. I found a suggestion on another site about disabling the Windows XP IMAPI CD Burning service and I did that but it did not help. So, with a variety of 4 different brands of DVD, 2 different burners, and 2 different versions of Nero (had 5.5 before) I get audio problems with this unit.

DVDs created with the unit play fine as well as commercial DVDs. I had purchased a JVC DVD Player a few years ago and returned it because of problems and it almost seems it was audio from computer created DVDs but I can't remember for sure.

Any suggestions? I may swap it for a Samsung.

Since no one has any suggestions and this is my second bad experience with JVC (and also the 2nd only JVC product I have purchased) I will swap it with a Samsung. I have used a Samsung recorder before they they are very good. I just liked the feature on the JVC of variable recording times. But if it can't play burned DVDs its not worth it.

I'm sure the JVC is fine.
Samsung would be a downgrade in quality.

I listed that in my first msg. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Prodisc that I have burned with a Sony I had a year ago and with a Plextor 708A I have now. Have tried with DVDLab and DVD Architech. I have burned the DVDs with those 2 products as well as with Nero 6.6 with latest updates. I will admit the DVDLab produces a more noticable problem, but the ones authored with DVDA produce distortion on lower sounds (Bass). I have no problems using my DVDs on a Sony, Samsung, Magnavox and Panasonic DVD Player. I think I have tried a multitude of different options to definitly say its the JVC. And like I said, I had a similair problem trying out a JVC player 2 yrs ago.

As far as I know from some of your posts the Samsung uses the same chip and I know someone with the 120 and it makes great DVDs. I was very impressed with the quality. I have never had a Samsung product I have owned have problems, but this is the 2nd JVC unit that has been crappy when playing DVDs.
