Is anyone aware of a freeware video application that can do bluescreening or chromakey? I've searched around but haven't found anything cheaper than shareware.

Don't know if Wax2 can do it, but you should have a look at it and also ZS4, which used to be an editor, but is growing up into a kind of freeware after effects lite.
There are also a couple of apps in source forge, although they may be a bit hit and miss.Read my blog here.

It seems like I have read that it can be done using AviSynth, but I don't know the filters involved.
Edit: the filters involved would be "ColorKeyMask" and "Layer""Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard
