  1. I just got a DMR-E85H last weekend and I am quite happy with hit.
However, this forum indicates that many folks have ran into the U99 problem and a firmware upgrade is needed to "fix" that problem.
I download the firmware upgrade file from Panasonic site, the file name is DMR85.EXE
    Is this correct that:
    1) I need to burn this file on a CD-R (as data file)
    2) put the CD-R in the DMR-85H unit (with power on of course)
and the upgrade will happen automatically ?

Or do I need to run DMR85.exe on the PC to extract to a set of folder/files first ?

I appreciate any who can help with this.

  3. Richard has done a great job in describing the issue.
Thanks for pointing me to his detailed work here. It does help users.
Panasonic should pay him a reward for doing a favor to Panasonic.

  4. Hmm, I download the file from the link above, and it's a Corel file about 6GB.

I also download the DMR85.EXE file from Panasonic Website, double click on it and it expands to a folder that has 3 files:

    1) two PDF files , one explain the upgrade procedure
    2) the same Corel File as above.

No instruction says that I have burn this Corel file on CD-R, but I know this must be the ONLY file to burn on CD-R as data file since the PDF files are obviously for me to read.

I tried the magic trick to get my DMR-85H to go into Service mode but it did not do it (press and hold STOP + TIMESLIP at the remote control and OPEN/CLOSE on the unit at the same time for more than 5 seconds).

Did I do something wrong here ?

  5. I did this yesterday......thats not a Corel file...its a *.FRM file

Get your FRM file, write it to a cd as a regular data cd. Put it in your dvd recorder (turn off tvguide). Wait & wait until it comes out, about 5 min, then wait another minute or two & don't take it out for a couple of min, it might go back., it should show on the display if it updated.

If you get a u11 code on the display it means you already have that FW.

  6. handyguy,
yiou are correct it's an FRM file. I will give it a try today.
No harm if I already have that firmware in my unit.
Have you tried the magic trick to get into Service Mode ?

  7. No, and don't change the FW if you don't need to....
