I'm getting a new graphics card soon, so I checked if I have any AGP slots (my old card is integrated in the motherboard). I found one, and beside it it says: "5V AGP Slot Only". I can only find info about 0.8V, 1.5V and 3.3V so I'm getting a bit confused. Is 5V some kind of very old technology or what? Can someone please explain what I should look for cards and stuff like that?

  2. Yes, 5V is the AGP 1x (original) voltage spec. Provide readers with your motherboard make/model. Also, check out the manufacturers site for specs on what the board can handle.

i guess that means i can't use any card that doesn't use agp 1x?

  4. That would be correct, however you might want to check with the manufacturer to get the final word.
Personally, I'd go with any of the more current PCI videocards (if you have an available PCI slot). Easier to find than AGP 1x compatible cards and probably cheaper. PCI is not to be confused with PCI Express or PCI-E, which is a far newer standard.

A collection of PCI cards. I would go with Matrox if you're not interested in gaming, just a crystal-clear 2d image.

Is a PCI card enough for, say Battlefield 2? Let's say the price doesn't matter for simplicity.

Pretty steep. I'm guessing that your processor doesn't meet the requirements if the board only supports AGP 1x. This card MIGHT be able to do it, but if your other comp specs don't match up I doubt you'll want to play it. Would be a "try it and see" approach:

A new rig is basically in order to play that game.
