I have been trying to take a Music Video off of a Nine Inch Nails DVD. So far I've used YadeX to extract the program streams. I end up with an m2v file and 2 different ac3 files (one file is 2 channel and one file is 5 channel. I want to use the 5 channel file).

I was hoping I could just take the m2v file and the 5 channel ac3 file and remux them into some form of MPEG 2 file with sound. I'm assuming there's some way to do this without converting either of the streams out of their native format.

I've tried a few different things so far. Nothing has worked. How do I do this?

Rename the m2v file and the 6 channel ac3 file the exact same name and save in the same folder. Go ahead and delete the 2 channel ac3 file. Open the m2v file in MPEG Streamclip and it will automatically add the 6 channel ac3 file. Save as a headed MPEG. This file will play in VLC with sound.

This process works only if you have the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component installed.

AntnyMD - Thanks for the reply.

I followed your instructions, and it worked just as you said. Unfortunately, the Quicktime AC3 Codec works on AVI files, but not on MPEG2 - basically what you said. A bit of a disappointment.

I use the great Video Jukebox App Cellulo to play music videos. Cellulo uses Quicktime so I am stuck with the limitations of Quicktime.

What I finally did was create 3 different files with MPEG Streamclip (What a Cool App!):

    1. MPEG2 Video with AC3 6 Channel Audio (Video Plays in Quicktime, but no Audio. Hoping that one day Quicktime will finally have proper AC3 support)

    2. MPEG2 Video with MPEG2 Audio (Both Video and Audio play in Quicktime, but the audio is only 2 Channel)

    3. AVI with DivX Video and the native 6 Channel AC3 Audio (Video and Audio play in Quicktime, but the Video quality is noticeably worse)

For now I have the 2nd option loaded in Cellulo. It's a bit of a compromise, but I'm sure the next party I have nobody will know the difference.
