Hey, I've done quite a bit with this kind of stuff, I'm just going to make a proposal about some video, and I don't really have time to test it out and make the calculations and such. So I was wondering if you guys could give some quick responses to my question.
I've got several tapes, for a total of 4 or 5 hours of video, that I want to put on DVD. It's all of somebody giving different speaches. The camera is focused only on the speaker for the large majority of the time. The person is at a pulpit most of the time, so there's very little movement beyond the head and facial expressions of the speaker.
So here's the question: if I compress it enough to fit all 5 hours onto one regular 4.7Gb DVD, is the quality still going to be pretty good? I've got a good MPEG compressor (its the MainConcept one that I got with Vegas+DVD), and know more or less what I'm doing. I personally think it should work out fine, but I don't want to go tell this person that I can put them all on one DVD, and then end up having to put it on to 2, or something, because its over-compressed.
Thanks for any help.

it will look like not great ... 5 hours on dvd from a dv source
1836 bit rate for video with ac3 stereo ..
you would want to make it 24p and 1/2 D1 resolution ..
it is possible though"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
a lot will depend on the quality of the source ...
i would use as a smoothing filter on it (the virtualdub mike crash vegas plug in)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
