I haven't backed up a DVD (to DVDR) in about a year and since then DVDShrink has seem to go out of style (and no new versions have been released). That was the only program I used when backing up my DVDs.

What's the new DVDShrink or the alternative option?

    TIA

  2. It's not out of style as far as I am concerned. It's still a great tool.

The best option I prefer is to use a combination of tools. For:

Ripping: DVD Decrypter (or DVDFab Decrypter)
    Compression: DVD Shrink
    Burning: DVD Decrypter or Nero.

DVD Shrink is still the best freeware transcoder IMO out there.

Nope. Looking at the comments from the link, it seems to have too many bugs at the moment.

I don't think that DVD Shrink will handle Sony ARCoSS copy protection very well, if at all. If you try to back up a movie with this protection scheme, you should use DVD Fab Decrypter or DVD Decrypter (latest of either) and write the files to your hard drive, then shrink the files with DVD Shrink and burn them.

As time goes by, both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter will have problems with some new DVDs. Neither of them will have any future upgrades to handle newer protection schemes. DVD Fab Decrypter is still a maintained product. It's good to have it as a "Plan B" if you encounter any DVDs that shrink and Decrpter can't handle.

Yeah, I've tried it on a movie only backup, with only one audio track, and it performed fine, no prolems. Quality about the same as shrink.

I see from the comments that others have had problems with it wityh multiple tracks and angles.
