  1. Hey, I keep getting skippy discs, it happens on every disc i burn and i cant figure why, I use winavi to convert and tmpgenc to encode, then Nero to burn at 4X on Bulkpaq DVD-R (the orange ones) they skip on every DVD player i use, is it the way I'm making my DVDs or Crap media? if its the later can anyone suggest a better brand which means i wont have this problem? because its getting to be a piss of when my dvds skip and freeze and its embarassing when I try to show off my movies and my friends come back saying they dont work p.s if anyone knows of a better PRINTABLE media please let me know

Are you checking your encoded files using a media player before you burn these files using nero?

Are the files skipping at this point.

If not, you can eliminate TmpgENC or WinAVI causing your problems.

if they are skipping, you've now found your problem. From your specs, I'd say lack of RAM is the cause for your skipping as the computer is having to use a tremenous amount of virtual RAM to compensate.

Is this a solitary HDD System? That may cause the VRAM problem above because the machine is encoding (reading and writing) to the same drive at the same time.

What movies are you trying to encode?

Just FYI - 'lending' backups of movies...might not be considered such a wise thing to do...and giving them/selling them, is DEFINATELY not.

  4. My specs are old, I upgraded and now have no RAM problems, the files dont skip when i run them on PC, and they dont always skip in the same place on DVD, sometimes when I play them more than once.

the DVDs I lend out are my own as in I record them and then burn them not downloading movies. just to clear things up.

I think i might be the media i use but just wanted to make sure by asking because i didnt want to go buying new discs when the ones I already have are fine.

That sounds like a media issue. Buy a small pack of another brand and try it.
