I have a Panny E80H.... You can erase and format Discs and the Harddrive through the Disc settings button in the main menu..and by the way... Panny e80H's are becoming notorious for having glitchy motherboards.. My unit went up when I was attempting to format a DVD-Ram disc.. screwed up bigtime and I had only owned it for about 14 months...Costs me $160.00 to repair it.. service guy told me that the motherboard was about to go up and it would have more economical for me to buy a new Panasonic DVD recorder than have the motherboard repaired when it does actually go up... gave me no guarantee on how long it'll work..So far it's hanging in there, doing what it's supposed to do...

  4. Hmmm, mine did that formating a DVD-Ram disc, but I just got another disk & it was okay.

My Unit started to format it then would lock up and shut down... Tried another RAM disc, same thing... Repair guy said Motherboard repairs are starting to turn up more frequently for these units... says most of em have to be replaced....He didn't say "what the problem with the motherboard was" but said Panasonic had addressed whatever it was in their newer units and recommended if my board does go up, it'll be cheaper in the long run to just go out and buy the newer unit than replace the motherboards...
