Just spotted in stores around my area 16x TDK DVD-R.
Are 8x media drying up for us mac users?
Has anyone on a mac tested burning these in their
    Pioneer-109's yet?

  2. Yes, they work for me as well as Verbatim 16x do. But then I've never been able to get beyond maybe 12x burns. Speaking of Verbatim, currently Best Buy stores have 50 disk spindles (+R and -R) of Verb 16x for $20. That's half of their typical sale price (lately it's been $19.99 for 25).

Of course my 109 is in the hands of Pioneer's warranty repair shop, and god only knows when I'll get it back. I'm tempted to get a 110D, which came on the market (newegg) cheaper than the 109 ended up being after much discounting. Reports seem to indicate it's burning speeds are better than the 109's.

Yes, I've read those reports also on the -110.
So what happened to your -109...
    too much FirmWare upgrading?

I'm still at the factory set 1.17 firmware,
and if I can AT LEAST get 12x burns on the
TDK 16x, that would be great for me.
( 3 mins average burn time)

Don't worry, 16x DVD-R will work in all Pioneer players as far back as the DVR-A03/103, as long as you have the latest firmware. I checked the specs on the Pioneer web site.

  5. I'm not sure what caused the problem—one day I burned two CDs and when I went to burn a third, I kept getting failures. Then I noticed I couldn't read a DVD, couldn't write audio CDs either. It might have been the cross flashing to an A09, although I've not seen anyone else report this happening when they cross-flashed. I have no idea if Pioneer will give me any detailed analysis of what failed. But I'd be happy just to gt a working drive back.

I've never been able to get 3 min burns at 16x. More like 6-7 min. Perhaps this is related to the drive's failer.
