  1. Here's the situation: I'm trying to re-edit and re-render a personal short film I have... I have the files on DVD, as well as the original mpeg 2 file, and the "video ts" files... on my system. I want to edit it in Vegas. I need to get the soundtrack...

The only thing I can think of is using "clier's ac3 tool," but when I try to do the "ac3>.wav" function, it seems to be processing the file (DOS window appears, shows processes), yet afterwards, I cannot find the file anywhere... ("Start>search" doesn't detect it anywhere...and clier's apparently doesn't allow you to choose WHERE you render your files)

Don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if I should be using another free tool...?

    thanks

  2. same problem here. this ac3 crap is probably the most frustrating audio task i've dealt with in my short and limited career. none of the tools work perfectly.

    1) Rip the dvd with dvd shrink to your HD for good measure.

    2) Go to the CILERS ac3Tool and go to the AC3 Extraction tab.

    3) In this tab point to the first VTS VOB file in the VIDEO_TS folder. It tells you this in this section.

    4) At the bottom where it says "SAVE AC3 File As" is the mysterious place where you tell it what you want it named and where you want it saved.

    5) Hit the extract button or extraire button.

    6) You now have the AC3 file..you're almost there.

    7) Choose the AC3 Analysis tab, find the ac3 file you just extracted and hit the Launch Analysis button.

8 - After analysis is complete, go to the AC3 > Wav tab.

    9) Give it whatever name you want at the bottom of the window and hit the AC3 > Wav button.

..and if this confuses you, you might want to brace yourself for a bumpy ride.

  4. Dont follow # 1
Use something like, or use Rejig in .ifo mode to demux audio.
    Quality is my policy.

    good call garth..

ok..if you demux then skip straight to step 7 of my instructions as the AC3 file will already be created. Either way will work, however.

  6. Actually, well, thanks for the quick feedback, but I already experiemented with DGIndex (I think?), and was able to 'demux' (or whatever the hell) a wav from one of the VIDEO TS folders (which I guess essentially put me at #7 or #8 )

Sundance sucks, but beggars can't be choosy!

  7. if u have mpeg2 file you can demux it with tmpgenc and have two separate audio and video tracks.

i think this is wahat you are trying to do if i understand it correctly

by the way if the audio is AC3 then you must have ac3 plug in installed for TMPGENC, then it can separate even multichannel ac3
