  1. Here's the deal, I rip with SmartRipper and demux files to a .m2v and .ac3. I then try to open the m2v file in TDA and it gives the error message: "could not initialize decoder". The m2v was in normal DVD resolution so I don't think I need to patch them. This problem has happened on the last 4 movies I have attempted to back up. I can also play these files with PowerDvd so I don't think it's a codec issue.

I have used this method before so I know it worked previously.

    Please help!

  2. Don't know if it matters but two more pieces of info:

    1. I checked enviornmental settings in Tmpgenc Plus and it has Directshow as 1 and th rest at 0 including the Mpeg2 Decoder.

    2. Even though the ripped m2v file plays, the original DVD itself will not play as I get an error message stating that my Tv Output is on and PowerDvd will not play it.

    Anyhelp is appreciated.

You'd be amazed what you'd find if you did an all forums search on "could not initialize decoder"

Or if you put it into google:
    http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=could+not+initialize+decoder+tmpgenc&meta=

    Search is your FRIEND
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. I'm sure your post was meant to be helpful and not sarcastic so I will refrain from responding in kind. Prior to posting I did search for the answer, I also read the prior threads so as to eliminate the codec issue, resolution/patch issue, enviornmental settings, playability, etc.

I'm not trying to get anyone to do my work for me, I was just hoping someone else had encountered this problem and knew what to suggest.

  8. Thanks jimmalenko, I read your links and I guess there really is no quick fix, i was hoping for a solution that didn't require demux, or encoding. I guess this is just an anomoly I'll have to live with.

    Thanks again for your help.
