  1. hi Guys,

    I need help.

I cannot seem to play a movie file on my computer.

It is an AVI file. I have attached a screenshot of G spot.

I am able to play this AVI file on my other computer but my laptop is unable to display it. So this shows that the movie file is not corrupted.

Could anyone tell me why? I have downloaded XVID but it does not seem to work.

    Please assist.

Try READING what GSPOT says.....................then read it again...and again..and again..until a little light comes on above your head.

  4. Sorry which part did I miss out - I downloaded the codec for the video but nothing appears -

Do you mean the sound codec will affect me playing the video too?

ogm is a container so it doesn't use codecs but you do need an ogm splitter, also a vorbis decoder for the audio.

Try Media Player Classic with corevorbis or ffdshow for the audio. Or Tobias's original filters or radlights ogm/ogg filters. mplayer or VLC would also work.

The ogm codec im talking about is the ogg filters needed for the audio playback, theres an ogg setup file that contains the neccessary files if you do a search on google.

I know that ogm is just a container for divx or xvid with ogg-vorbis audio.

Exactly ogm is a container. Codec = decoder/encoder. A container requires a splitter or parser. This takes the file and splits it into streams that can be fed to a decoder. All containers require a splitter, it is just that windows comes with some of the common ones like for instance an avi splitter.

Also ogm doesn't have to use vorbis for audio. It can use mp3, aac or AC3 for a start. Also the video can be anything that has a VfW encoder. But yes, the reason that Tobias developed it in the first place if I recall correctly to use vorbis audio with XviD video.

  9. about this thread, i had the same problem with an AVI file recently, read this thread and finally got the AVI (XVID / OGG) to play using VLC 0.82

is it possible to encode this movie into a MPG-2 DVD file? (tmpegenc says its not supported..)

VLC uses internal decoders, etc. as such it won't effect something like TMPGEnc that relies on those installed on the system.

So you have an avi or an ogm?

  11. it was a AVI file with OGG dual audio channels, using VirtuaDubMod i demuxed it into Video (AVI), Subtitles SRT and 2 OGG Audio files, then i added the subtitles with VirtuaDub and transformed OGG to WAV using OggdropXP 1.8.6.

Everything kinda worked fine...except that when i checked video at some points video got corrupted but just a few frames in 3 or 4 scenes strange since original file dodnt showed errors like these.
