Well, I finally decided to upgrade from my LiteOn 5001 (uncorrectable jitter issues when fed S-VHS tape source), and bought an ILO DVDR04 from Walmart before they all disappear. The jitter is gone, the unit records really nice and clean. Just like I had seen in the past.

But my unit, of all the luck, has this horrible audio buzz/hum when recording off the tv tuner. I have to have a tuner, so save your "use other inputs" advice.

    Listen to this crap: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/downloads/ilo/iloproblem.wav

I noticed maybe 3-4 people total, ever, across the Internet on video/Liteon/ILo related sites complaining about this, often with no fix. Here was one from this site:

Recently tried Digital cable, and they replaced the cables and splitters to that location - so know the signal is good. Returned unit (had August 2004 manufacturing date) and exchanged for a new unit with July 2004 manufacturing date. Same problem. None of my other equipment experiences this hum. It is not especially noticable unless the channel is quiet. It may be that there is something with my cable company (I did not try the RF output of a VCR as a source, too late now as it is packed up). I will be returning the unit for my money back. Too bad, because otherwise seemed like a good unit. Nobody else out there has experienced this ?

Any more of them at WalMart? Their return policy is pretty lax, you might be able to just exchange it. Of course you won't really know if you got another bad one til you get home. I was thinking about picking one up myself but I waited too long and now all we have are the 05s. The reviews on those don't seem nearly as good.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

The 05's are Cyberhome and Cyberhome = crap.
So yeah, new ones have bad reviews.

    The 04's were LiteOn clones.

LS. .. I had that same problem with mine! It went away when using my comcast digital cable box as a tv tuner.. by running the coaxial cable thru it, and then to the dvd recorder... thats the only way I could sort the problem out.... sucks

LS DON'T use the onboard tuner! ITS CRAP!
    Mono, noisy......etc.

All those vcrs and none with an acceptable tuner??
    That's how I use mine.
The onboard tuner is absolutely last resort.

It's locking up on rear s-video recordings too after about 40-60 minutes. My unit is just a lemon. I'm gonna return it for another one.

  7. I went thru two 5005s, both hummed.
    Both had the jitters.
Both had poor record quality, whether I used the tuner or not.
    And both paused during playback.
Spoke to two different Liteon tech in 01/05:
One Liteon tech said they used poor tuners.
One Liteon tech said their would be firmware to correct this in April/May this year.
I love my Liteon DVD Burner, but I avoid the recorders at all cost.

Hey aren't you posting this twice ?
