  1. Tried viewing two .asf files with MPlayer OSX 2 but neither opens no matter which way I try. Then I try to convert (as I have been told) using Mencoder OS X, but there are sooo many vaiables to choose from; one thing which I don't see any options for is that it appears to be converting to/saving as an .avi file but what I really want is a QT file (preferably .mpg, or .mov). Can someone guide me through the process and/or tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks a bunch.

first post, so forgive me if this is familiar territory :

after some research it seems that rather than $100 on the flip4mac thingy, i could upgrade to QT pro for £20 and add the flip4mac player (for $10) to decode windows media files. neither doftware directly mentions variations within 'windows media' formats, but after the post above, it seems that ASF files might also work - so is my solution workable? i want ASF / WMV into QT pro via FLIP4MAC and then export as QT (or other). seems right?...
also seems possible to rename ASF as WMV then go to QT player and simple select open (not automatically recognised by flip4mac when you double click).
