I'm looking for a standalone DVD player in the affordable but efficient range.
What I need:
- Region free or easily hackable with a one-time process, PAL and NTSC;
- Flawless playback with no jumping or skipping of any kind, including layer changes;
- Good compatibility with different media brands and formats, including +/-/RW and USB2.0;
- CHEAP!
- It would be a plus if it could be effectively turned off with a power button instead of just remaining in "standby" or whatever, but this is not mandatory.
What I DON'T need:
-Blu/HD/high-whatever;
-DTS.
Please advise - thank you!

If you can get a Cyberhome 300 on Ebay-get it. It plays everything and is region code free. It does not care where you are-NTSC/PAL

Thanks pepegot1, I do prefer DVD players that don't need to know where I live in order to play my DVDs... I've heard about the Cyberhome before, and I'll take a look on it.
Any more suggestions ? -
Kweldood, we need to at least know what country you are from so that we can suggest the proper model numbers (based largely on a country's voltage system) and places to buy DVD players without paying import duties. The "Location" part of your profile is also put there to determine whether a person's issues are related to PAL, SECAM, or NTSC. It helps solve people's problems. Nobody is snooping and nobody gives a rats ass where you live. General info about country is simply needed so that we can offer the best possible answer to your question.
Geez... -
Yes!!
We need to know your full name, EXACT address & S.S. #!!
It's one thing to be a clueless newbie.... but to add paranoia to the list
Ahhh... refreshing!!
No one is going to track you down because you stated what country you live in
Diff. countries use diff. voltages, don't all have the same models available, ect.
