Hello
I currently have an Intel P4 540 3.2E with 512MB 3200 DDR RAM running WinXP Home SP2
This is a computer I bought in December 2004 and it included a PCI-E NVIDIA GeForce FX 5300 (128MB) video card.
DOOM III plays OK but not great.
So the question is ... what is the cheapest PCI-E video card that can still perform well with high-end games like DOOM III or HALF-LIFE 2 etc.
I don't care if it is NVIDIA or ATI etc.
In short I don't expect to pay $100 but I don't want to pay $400 either just for a video card.

Check the options
Half-Life 2:

Doom3

I think the GeForce 6600 GT should be a good option for less than $200.
Check for the best price:

This is what I'd go with.

I've put one in a Dell 4600 and haven't seen anything it can't play just yet. Of course it's out of stock at newegg at the moment. -
Sounds as though you both are suggesting the Nvidia 6600 GT and the price ain't bad so perhaps that is the one for me
