    Do you guys have any good recommendations on good books on MP4 and h.264 compression/encoding. General books about the subject are fine too. Thanks.

    My reccomendation is the following book:

    H.264 and MPEG-4 Video Compression
    Video Coding for Next-generation Multimedia
    Iain E. G. Richardson
    The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK
    John Wiley & Sons Ltd,
    ISBN 0-470-84837-5

    I have read this book from cover to cover, and while it also covers some general aspects of video coding, it practically covers the whole subject in a way that can be read. Get this and the ISO MPEG-4 documents and this is all you need.
    The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
