can someone please help me find a video card for my HP Pavilion 7940? i know this system sucks but i need a new video card for it. I need one that is PCI. Everytime I find a good one i dont know if it is compatible with my system. And the HP website says i only have a 185 watt power supply. thanks for all of your help.

I've set it to sort for PCI only cards and the Radeon 9250 chipset which is one of the best you can still get in a PCI version card. There are several of them. The choice is how much money you want to put into it and what features you need.

    Not many options in here:

For PCI video cards an Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 based (DX9), 256Mb PCI card should be one of the best opions, but they recomend a 250 watt min./300 watt power supply.

The part of the card that consumes more power is the DDR memory, not the GPU. Given this, an FX 5500 128MB card should probably work in your system, but I have no way to test it.

Another good option will be a RADEON 9250 (DX8), 128 MB PCI card because it has less power requierments, but the game performance will be lower.

The 185 watt P/S is your biggest concern. I fried a power supply and a hard drive by putting in a video card that required more power than I had to give it.

If you have integrated graphics in your system now, installing a video card may overload your power supply.
