    Hi,

I have the Hauppauge wintv pvr 250. I've never had serious problems with it until just now. I was trying cap a tv special and I was using the dvd extra long play setting to reduce the file size. But it stuttered horribly. It was way out of synch. So I tried the long play then the dvd standard play. None of them would display properly.

Out of curiousity I selected svcd standard play mode and it cleared up just fine. So I went to the big kahouna and selected mpeg 2 12mb/s record mode (the max setting on the wintv). It was perfect. So I went to one of my personal settings of mpeg2 3000mb/s and half d1. It's dubbing just fine now.

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm using winxp with sp2. I haven't done anything to wintv. Also just last week I think I used it succesffully in the dvd preset mode.

It's no big deal if I have to manually copy the settings for the dvd modes and call them something else. I'd prefer not to uninstall and reinstall the drivers if I don't have to. That can get messy and sometimes cause more problems than it solves.

If anyone has suggestions please let me know. Again I can record in dvd quality just not with the dvd preset modes. Thanks for any tips.

  2. Try turning your computer off. I've seen the PVR-250 get messed up on occasion, requiring a power cycle. Not just a reboot, but a full power cycle.

    Hi,

Thanks I'll give that a try later. I've had it screw up too in minor ways that reboot worked. What suprised me was the regular mpeg2 modes worked perfectly. Strange.

  4. In case your settings are screwed up:

    DVD Standard Play
    Output Stream: DVD
    Variable Bitrate
    Bitrate: 6400
    BitRate PEAK: 8000
    Res: 720x480

    DVD Long Play
    Output Stream: DVD
    Variable Bitrate
    Bitrate: 4800
    BitRate PEAK: 6200
    Res: 720x480

    DVD EXtra Long Play:
    Output Stream: DVD
    Variable Bitrate
    Bitrate: 3000
    BitRate PEAK: 4400
    Res: 720x480

All have audio set to Stereo, MPEG Layer 2, 48 KHz, 384 Kbps.

I'm not sure if I've modified these somewhere along the line though.
