  1. i have a dvd-rv31 and it suddenly stopped reading DVD's/VCD's, etc (whatever we throw in it). It was working fine before we went on vacation. When we came back from vacation, I turned it on and it couldn't read anything. It just says "read" but never quite gets anywhere. Before i throw it out, I thought i would check and see if anyone has any ideas.

    Thanks

    Edit:
let me add a few other things:

I have tried resetting already using the following procedure:

    1) On the unit
    - hold PAUSE + BWD-SKIP + OPEN for about 3 seconds

The display will display "initialization" or "int".

    2) While initialization is being displayed, let go of PAUSE and press STOP while holding the other two buttons.

The display will then display "reset".

Finally, I think this may have been caused by DVD+R use. Before we left for vacation, i had used a DVD+R in the player for the first time. I played the movie. I left the movie in the player. Could this have caused a damaged lens like described in the link below:

I have two friends that bought this model Panasonic only a month or so apart.

The first one lasted 1 year then died. The 2nd one lasted 6 months.

That seemed like a long time ago so if your RV31 just died my guess is you have had it for a long time now.

Consider yourself lucky it lasted so long.

  3. You're right, we've had it since dec '01, and used it as our exclusive player between '01 and Jan '04. It's now in our bedroom, and with it not working, I am not going to try to convince my wife to replace it with a divx player.
