I sincerely hope it's not a Sony. I recently had to dump our Sony player after it quit working entirely. After years of service, this device started balking at DVD-R's. Sometimes it played them, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it took forever for it to actually read it. Because it gradually got worse, I thought it was just an old player and didn't like my discs.
I was wrong. About a month ago, it died. It wouldn't spin a single disc no matter if it was pressed or burnt. The problem with this player would have cost $89 to fix. Fortunately, I could do the repair myself otherwise it would probably have cost twice that amount, if I could even find someone to do it. Instead, I bought a $119 DVD Recorder.
I hope your issue isn't the same as mine, but that's how it started. After playing a pressed disc and inserting a burnt disc it would choke. Not all the time, but enough to be annoying. When it died, I was mad, but somewhat relieved at knowing I wouldn't have to deal with that problem anymore. -
its an apex its not an expensive dvd player but i still hope its not what yours had lol some times it will just load and kep loading and if i put in a regular dvd and take it out real quick then put in a vcd it will play it it just started actin wierd like that yesterday

That all sounds familiar. If you leave the disc in when it's attempting to read, does it eventually, even minutes later, give you disc read error or other type error? I tried your method which worked. I could also wait a few minutes and re-insert the VCD/SVCD DVD-R with sometime successful reads. The replacement part for the sony (Laser which died) was $89 which is well over the cost of a new player in my neighborhood.
I certainly hope this isn't the case here. You may want to try a lens cleaning disc, but if it's reading other book types fine, I'd say it your problem sounds all too familiar, -
i dont get an error it just loads forever and never comes up what i dont understand is why they work after i put a regular dvd in it like it changes the settings or somthin?

It's a different type of media which requires a different type of read. While the DVD is getting up to speed, the laser is determining which type of disc it's going to be reading and adjusts itself accordingly.(simple explanation)

If it's an apex and not a media problem, I suggest you go here.
