I bought a Pioneer Duplictor from Meritline and I am using Ritek Ridata DVD+R 16x media. The duplicates are not readable on my panny dvd player/recorder. They are only readable on my Dell PC. Why is this?
I can burn on the same DVD+R discs using my Dell PC and they are readable on my Panny DVD player/recorder.
Can someone please tell me what I can do?
Thanks!

You could try listing the burning program and speed used, both on the device that works and the one that does not.
You could also specify if you used the EXACT SAME movie to test on the device that works and the one that does not.
Without additional information, I cannot tell the difference between the advice that works and the one that does not. -
1st:
When you record the dvd+r's on your pc are you changing the booktype to dvd-rom or is your burner set to this through a firmware upgrade ?
2nd:
does your panny recorder only record on dvd-r ? (im pretty sure)
I have a panny dvd recorder also and the only way a dvd+r will play on it is if they are booktyped to dvd-rom.
And i'll bet your standalone dupper is not setting the booktype on +r's to rom.

Panasonic DVD recorder, not a good player.

When (actually i always do) set +R's to dvd-rom my panny plays them as good any other player i have, although my other players will play + as a + without chaning the booktypeso that is a short coming, but there are alot of players that won't play +.

It has other playing issues too. Sadly, it's playing abilities are outperformed by a $30 Cyberhome unit. It tends to only work well on commercial discs, or discs it made itself. And in fact, if you talk with Panasonic, that's all they care about.

And i'll agree with you on the "panny only caring about themselves", kind of like sony for years and years
but i guess any company only cares about it's own profit.
I never even play disc's on the machine that were made on it, every disc i play in it are ones that i have burned on my pc's that are + booktyped to rom and as far as i can see, they play just as good as on any other machine i have and it's at least 2, maybe 3 years old now
Just my experiance 8)
anyway's, my point is it prob. has to do with the booktype as i know the panny recorders wont play a +R unless it is changed and he said he is using +R's. -
Okay, I get it. The Panasonic DVD recorder does not play DVD+R unless it is recorded as DVD-ROM which my computer is obviously doing and my dupper is not. I've already ordered DVD's that are not +R but -R so that this problem will be resolved. But the thing is, these are church event video's that I am selling for church profit and I don't want others to have problems with compatability. I haven't had problems so far, but I've always used DVD-R. So, should I not worry about this problem, since probably the majority of dvd players will be able to play it, or should I always stick to DVD-R to be on the safe side.
Thanks for all of your responses.

Well, from personal experiance if a dvd player will play any dvd media, it will play dvd-r.
I just know that dvd+ changed to dvd-rom will play on players that will only play -r, like i have a player that wont play anyting but pressed dvd's, but i have yet to come accross a dvd player that will play +r and not play -r.
I just like to use +r because i can change the booktype to dvd-rom because i figure if the player reads it as a dvd-rom (pressed dvd) it has to be better
But i have been doing for so long and have supplied 1000's of people with 1000's of dvd+r's changed to dvd-rom and have not had any problems!!
From my experiance, a standalone will play -r, but maybe not +r.
A standalone will play both.
A standalone will play neither.
I have yet to see any proof of a player not playing -r but will play +r, booktype changed or not. but they do have standalone recorders that only record in +r but i have never tried to play a -r in them so i don't know about those.
Overall, i'd say if you can't change the booktype to dvd-rom you are as safe as you could be with -r 8) like i said, if a standalone player will play any dvdr media, it will play -r.
But then some players are known to be picky about media brands also.
It's not pressed dvd-roms so nothing is 100% surefire
But there are so many other variables that the majority of people never even consider or think of. -
I'm betting very few people will have problems with your DVD+Rs, given the compatibility of DVD players these days. The problems will be, obviously, with older machines that may understand the DVD-ROM book type but not the difference in reflectivity between a +R and a stamped disc. Just make a couple of -R copies to give to them if they have problems. It's not like they'll beat you or something if it doesn't work, it is a church after all.
